Individual Counseling
After an initial 90 minute consultation, I provide individual 45-minute in-person and/or phone sessions.
Included in my service is telephone access between sessions for brief check in. Many of my patients find
this a very useful tool, particularly when there is a crisis, or in the initial stages of recovery.
Group Therapy
I facilitate open ended 90-minute groups dealing with both addiction and codependency. Group sessions
are very helpful in addressing social isolation, family and relationship issues.
Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is a 1-hour session between heterosexual or same sex partners and usually deals with
problems that arise in recovery. Many couples have difficulty adjusting to each other when one or both of them are in
early recovery from addiction and/or codependency.
Family Counseling
Family counseling sessions, which last for one hour, involve as many family members as is required to
resolve the problems. Addiction is a family system disease and the sessions usually involve an educational component.
Change can have a tremendous impact on a family and when one or more members suffer from addiction, family therapy can facilitate
both the recovery or the individual and the healing of the family.
Interventions
Intervention requires a significant commitment and preparation from all participants. There are
multiple sessions and the time commitment depends upon the participants' level of understanding of the disease of
addiction. Intervention participants are each evaluated individually and as a group and this process may take place
over a period of days or weeks depending upon the number of participants and the severity of the problems.
